24th January 2016 Windsurfing: Levington Wind Direction: sw Wind Stength: 5/10 Surf / Sea State: flatish Air Temperature: 10 Sea Temperature: 8 Weather: cloudy Max Speed: 11.78 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 9.5 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) As Mag and I have got a job in a warehouse in Felixstowe for a few weeks and yesterday we were in Ipswich visiting my stepmum in hospital :( today was my only chance to get out on the water. With only lightwinds forecast but mild and a good tide for Levington I headed over to the marina at 9:30. It was dull and you could only just see Felixstowe docks in the gloom but with winds gusting to15 mph on my gauge I decided to rig and give it a go.I couldn't use my full Gull winter wetsuit as there was no one about to do the back zip I went with the Mystic Majestic with my new thermal top and was toasty apart from getting cold feet after a couple of hours on the water! I launched from the little beach by the marina entrance and headed across the bay before tacking to sail up river to the Orwell bridge. To start with the breeze was OK but got lighter and lighter as I neared the bridge all but disappeared :( so I aborted sailind under the bridge, tacked and started the slow trip back to the van ! I made it back to the van after two and a half hours, not the most exciting of sessions but still nice to be out on the River Orwell surrounded by loads of birds:) Photo Gallery Here |
